Photomaton & Cartadis, a partnership that transforms the customer experience

Photomaton
A historic player and global leader in automated self-service, Photomaton operates nearly 10,000 machines in France and 50,000 worldwide.
As part of the development of new offerings in large and medium-sized retail stores (GMS), Photomaton aimed to enhance its kiosks with printing, copying, and scanning services, while maintaining a strong focus on reliability, ease of use, and cost control.
The initial need
The starting point of the project was clear:
- Have an extremely reliable coin mechanism, capable of operating in a high-traffic retail environment (GMS).
- Integrate card payment, including for very small amounts (under €1), while ensuring controlled operating costs.
- Add a simple and secure mobile printing solution that meets the current needs of end customers.
The challenge: integrating the CMPrint into the Photomaton ecosystem
The CMPrint, initially designed as a standalone solution, is built on a robust, secure, and field-proven architecture.
Two major challenges guided the project:
- Custom integration: adapting the CMPrint components to the space, ergonomics, and design constraints specific to Photomaton kiosks.
- Reliability and security: ensuring seamless integration without compromising payment security or the smoothness of the user experience.
A tailor-made solution by Cartadis
Cartadis and KIS/Photomaton worked closely together to rethink the integration of the CMPrint, while preserving its core strengths:
- A robust, field-proven coin mechanism, perfectly suited to intensive use.
- Card payment for very small amounts, a key innovation in large and medium-sized retail environments, making card payments accessible at low cost.
- The integration of the PrinterKiosk service, enabling simple mobile document printing.
PrinterKiosk gives users the ability to print from a smartphone, tablet, or PC, simply by sending their document as an email attachment, in addition to copy and scan functions.
Result: A deployment in France and Belgium
Today, 350 units are being rolled out across France and Belgium, providing GMS customers with a comprehensive, modern, and seamless service.
The user experience is enhanced through the integration of the PrinterKiosk service, which allows users to print documents from a smartphone, tablet, or PC by sending them as an email attachment, in addition to copy and scan functions.
